16 Miles For Skaneateles Lake

On July 22, 2025, Rachael DeWitt completed an incredible 16-mile swim across the full length of Skaneateles Lake — finishing the journey in just 9 hours and 17 minutes.

Guided by a deep love for the lake that shaped her life, Rachael swam from the Village pier to the southern shore at Glen Haven, cheered on by neighbors, campers, and a community united in support.

Her swim wasn’t just a personal milestone — it was a powerful reminder of why protecting this lake matters to all of us.

Journey Along The Lake


From the moment Rachael pushed off from the Village pier at sunrise, the lake came alive around her. Neighbors stepped onto their docks with cheers and handmade signs. Campers at Lourdes Camp erupted into applause as she passed mid-lake, offering the perfect lift just when the miles were beginning to add up.

By the time she reached Glen Haven, Rachael was welcomed by family, friends, and supporters who lined the shoreline to celebrate the final strokes of her 16-mile journey—an accomplishment powered by strength, purpose, and the love of a community connected by Skaneateles Lake.

 
Rachael’s journey across the lake is more than a swim. It’s a tribute to the water that shaped her life and a reminder of what we’re all working to protect.

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship supports students who excel academically and show a clear passion for environmental studies and stewardship.

SELECTION AND AWARD

A $2,500 award is given annually to a graduating Skaneateles High School senior recommended by guidance and science faculty and enrolled in an accredited program.
