Who We Are

The Skaneateles Lake Association is focused on some of the greatest threats to the quality of our lake — invasive species prevention, harmful algal bloom research and monitoring, milfoil control and hemlock protection.

Established, supported and led by a volunteer force of community members, we have been protecting the lake for over fifty years. Your support is important to help us continue the valuable and necessary work we have started.

Our Goals

PROTECT — Take all action necessary to protect and improve the water quality of Skaneateles Lake and to protect and improve its watershed.

PROMOTE: Reach out to residents, government agencies and other community members about threats to the lake and its watershed.

SUPPORT: Pursue environmentally- and aesthetically-sound regional management of Skaneateles Lake and its watershed by encouraging cooperation among the Skaneateles Lake watershed municipalities.

ENGAGE: Create and implement community-minded activities to further the mission of the Association.

Our History

  • In 1969, the Skaneateles Lake Pure Water Association, Inc. was incorporated to protect and preserve Skaneateles Lake and its watershed.
  • In 1971 it received federal tax exempt status under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.
  • In 1992 the Tri County Skaneateles Lake Association, an unincorporated association, was formed to continue and expand the work of the corporation.
  • In 1999, these entities merged and filed to change the name to the Tri County Skaneateles Lake Pure Water Association, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation. Our tax exempt status was continued and all contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
  • In 2011, the Board of Directors of the Tri-County Skaneateles Lake Pure Water Association, Inc. voted to change its name to the Skaneateles Lake Association, Inc. and legally assume Tri-County’s tax-exempt status.
