How to view survey information:

1) In the mapping window above showing the lake, change the drop-down menu from “No Vegetation” to “Vegetation”.

2) In the upper right hand corner under Skaneateles Lake choose 455/800 khz for a more refined detailed picture of the underwater view.

3) The top panel will give you an aerial view of the track followed by the boat in the survey.  On the left is a zoom scale allowing you to magnify the view.  It is best to increase the magnification for a better view.  The red line is the path that the boat followed.  The scale on the right hand side of the screen indicates the amount of vegetation.

4) The bottom panel is a side scan of the vegetation.  Interpretation of the type of vegetation from these images is still not completely resolved.  Much of the vegetation is curly leaf pondweed, which appear as slender straight stems.  Milfoil is a bushier plant that often is bent over and looks relatively fatter and fuzzier than pondweed.  The bottom is indicated by the white band and the vegetation rises from that.  The echoes at the surface and under the white band are not rooted aquatic vegetation, but reflections from bubbles or other matter at the surface and echoes from the bottom.

5) At the bottom of the lower panel are arrows that allow you to move through the cruise.  Click on the single arrow to the right of “stop” and it will let you progress through the entire cruise.  The vertical bar in the lower panel indicates the underwater view at the boats location.

6) Below you’ll find a detailed vegitation analysis from the trip.
