News from the Skaneateles Lake Association

It’s all about membership…..

As we look to making plans for what efforts we can take next year in controlling the spread of milfoil and preventing the introduction of other invasive plants and animals in Skaneateles Lake we must look at our membership.

Here are the figures:

Currently, for the 2013 calendar year, the SLA has 494 members. We could not have done the work we have done this year without every single one of them. Many of our 2013 members do not own lakefront property or property with lake rights. They are citizens of the lake community who just plain love the lake and the community it creates.

Ninety-seven (97) of our current 494 members have contributed to the efforts of the SLA predecessor organizations between 2007 and 2010 and have been members of the SLA in 2011, 2012 and 2013. These people have sustained the efforts of the SLA and its predecessor organizations. Their donations and memberships have enabled us to start work every year. Some of them have joined, donated and donated again in the same year.

The following are groups of people who are not current (2013) members of the SLA:

1. 108 owners of lakefront property in the Town of Spafford;

2. 190 owners of property with lake rights in the Town of Skaneateles;

3. 300 owners of lakefront property in the Town of Skaneateles;

4. 146 owners of lakefront property in the Towns of Sempronius and Niles;

5. 15 owners of lakefront property in the Town of Scott;

600 of all the property owners in the 5 groups above have never donated to the SLA’s predecessor organizations and have never been members of the SLA (2011 – 2013).

In order to plan and contract for the work we must do to keep the waters of Skaneateles Lake clear and pure we must ask all those in the 5 groups above the following question, “If you are not a 2013 member of the Skaneateles Lake Association, shouldn’t you be an annual member this year and every year?

You can join the Skaneateles Lake Association by going to SkaneatelesLake.org and clicking on “become a member”.
